A 10-Step Playbook to Build Goals You Won’t Hate (and actually work)
Mission in Motion
Does the term “goal setting” give you the ick?
”Goals are too corporate.”
“Goals create anxiety.”
“Goals make it about numbers.”
“Goals reduce reliance on God.”
At some point in my 20 years as a pastor, I’ve said every one of those things.
But I was wrong.
Learning how to set clear, achievable goals has drastically improved my life, both personally and as a pastor.
The problem isn’t that goals are bad.
It’s that we’ve been bad at setting them.
Too often, goals are:
Too vague (“see people grow closer to Jesus”)
Too ambitious (“double attendance in 3 months”)
Too far away (“by 2050 we will…”)
Too harmful (“if you don’t achieve X, you’re fired”)
But when done well, goals are one of the most powerful tools for ministry I’ve ever seen.
Good goals get staff, volunteers, and boards on the same page.
Good goals reduce stress for pastors while helping them accomplish more.
Good goals turn “stuck” churches into healthy ones.
That’s why I created Mission in Motion: A 10-Step Playbook to Build Goals You Won’t Hate (and actually work)
It’s a 12-page PDF that helps you:
Set ambitious goals you can actually achieve without burning out
Get your whole team clear about how they should be focusing their time and energy
Make your board and staff check-ins productive instead of stressful
You’ll find it attached below….completely free.
Just a practical resource from me to you, because, well, we help pastors.
Now, if you download it and think, “This is great, but I could use a hand putting it into action…” here’s how I can help:
Personal Coaching: I’ll coach you through this framework so you see progress personally and pastorally.
Leadership Training: I’ll coach you step-by-step on how to implement the framework for your staff and volunteers so your whole team can start making progress.
Goal-Setting Workshop: I’ll lead a hands-on session with your team to teach and apply the system together.
I hope this playbook helps you build good goals that move your mission forward and don’t freak you out.
And if you’d like me to come alongside your team through coaching or a workshop, just reach out and let’s start the conversation.
